Magellan Roadmate 700
Just downloaded the new 3.52 update and index files for English. The whole
process worked fine. I was very interested in the POI feature and faster
panning.

Any one have any idea of when Magellan is going to cough up the
promised update? I'm getting discouraged about an obsolete unit with a
dead end future.

Re: Magellan Roadmate 700
I feel the same and may try to unload it and move to another brand.

i like this unit and have spent too much money on it to consider abandoning
it now; so i'm just going to try to wait patiently for the update that they
promised would arrive back in 2005 if amyone sees it please alert the
newsgroup.

I think Magellan has abandoned their products rather than the other
way around.
I don't think the update is coming unless by some third party source
perhaps later. I purchased a second 700 for my daughter at Christmas.
It's going back to the retailer today.

Received this from Magellan today:

I understand that you would like to get information about the release
of the latest map updates available for your RM 700 and for your
information, the latest map update which is V.5.14, is expected to be
released in another 10-15 days. So I would suggest you to wait until
the latest map update is released and then contact us regarding the
costs. In order to buy the maps, you can directly call our Sales
Department at 1-866-339-0488 once the latest map update is released.
You can also contact our Technical Support at 1-800-707-9971 for
further assistance.

That's the same song they have been singing since October.

Re: Magellan Roadmate 700
If what I read is accurate they are planning on charging $250 for the
update, but only $100 if the unit was purchased less than 30 days before the
update is ordered. They also dumped a bunch of refurb units through
warehouse clubs and mail order over the holidays. Could it be that they are
delaying the release of the update until a majority of the refurb units have
been owned for more than 30 days and they can charge the increased price?

Any idea what the policy would be for units purchased after the upgrade
becomes available? Garmin says "If you purchased a locked MapSource
product ON or AFTER the release date of an update, you are entitled to
an unlock on the newer version of that product for free". Does
Magellan have a similar policy?
I'm looking at a 700 at a warehouse club. There is no indication that
it is a refurb. Does Magellan always identify their refurbs?
