Read the ad carefully. As I read it, all the dude is selling is an
engine and a vin plate and title from a 54 Vette. The engine is correct
for the vin shown on the title.
He can sell all the 54 Corvettes and engines he wants, the selling of
the vin plate and matching title is where the rub starts. Check the
state and Fed laws on the subject.

Re: Is this Legal?
That is what seemed out of kilter to me.
This auction seems solely for the purpose of setting up a fraud. The
Corvette that the VIN plate came from apparently no longer exists, so what
other reason is thier to sell the VIN plate other than to use it to
fraudulently change the ID of some other car.
Seemed illegal and un-ethical to me.

Re: Is this Legal?
Welcome to the world of Corvettes. When they were $5000 sports cars and you
could buy them used for $2000, people drove them, raced them, modified them,
and had fun with them.
When the prices began going $10,000, $20,000, and higher on 20 and 30 year
old cars, all that changed.
Now the norm is restamping, restoring, and reselling. Much isn't real, but
it looks real. Many are actually clones, but done so well, you can't tell.
You have a VIN plate, then you can have a car.
and restamps? Once the serial number and correct pad information meant the
engine was original. Today is simply means those numbers match the car.
They could be original or they could have been stamped a week ago.
Pity anyone paying extra because it has an original engine. Because today,
that original engine may be the second or third original engine to be in
that car.
