BMW: Laptop Connection for KSD CD?

Laptop Connection for KSD CD?
I recently purchased the TIS/ETK/KSD cds on ebay and would like to be
able to connect to my car to read the fault codes. Anyone know why
type of connection I need (number of pins?) to run from my laptop to
the car?

Re: Laptop Connection for KSD CD?
TIS is for repair instructions & service information. ETK is only a parts
catalog. And KSD is the warranty labor times, operation codes, and defect
codes. None of those CD's will read faults from your car. You would need a
DIS tester, or a GT1 for that.

OK, if I had a DIS tester or GT1, can you also change the key code setting
etc? And are these magical boxes or a bit of software and you still need the
lead that we dont know what it looks like?
TIA

Re: Laptop Connection for KSD CD?
The DIS tester and GT1's are BMW diagnostic equipment. They have every cable
you could ever need to do whatever you want to the car. But... they're not
available to anyone except BMW dealerships. I'm sure there may be some
aftermarket units available, but I'm only familiar with the stuff we use at
our dealership.
