The keys are expensive. What CW said about getting them on Ebay was good
advice. You can code one yourself, it's not hard at all, post here and we
    will tell you how.

When I put my drive shaft harness on, I had to lift the carpet. Underneath
was a brand new key for my car.. had to be coded, but it was the right one.

About the wheel locks. Working at the body shops, one thing I noticed. There
would be theft recoveries brought in and I would guess that 8 out of 10
times a car that had a set of good locks on it kept it's rims.

You'd see a car coming in on a flatbed. It would be bashed up, scraped up,
glass all over the place , the ignition popped and evidence of all sorts of
abuse... but the wheels would still be on it.

    | As far as the key blanks go, many bigger locksmiths carry the blanks, and
    | for a lot less $$ than Ford. If not, you can get them off of Ebay for
    | around $10.00, then have them cut at any locksmith, and program them
    | yourself following the instructions in the owner's manual.
    |
    | As far as the wheel locks go, Personally I would take them off, and throw
    | them away!
    |
    | 1. thiefs aren't really interested in factory wheels.
    | 2. if the ARE interested in them, the locks add about another 20 seconds
    to
    | the time it takes to remove them. (if that)
    |
    |
    | there are only a few different "patterns" for the keys. As such, some
    | thiefs have a "ring" with all of them on ... others will just bang a
    socket
    | onto the lug, and use a socket wrench.
    |
    | BUT if you are really set on having another key for it, Ford can supply
    you
    | with an extra based on the number on the key.
    |
    | The other option (a *little* more secure) is to buy some aftermarket wheel
    | locks...

Hey... I saw an Ebay auction... uncut "aftermarket" Ford keyblanks for $18.
"Aftermarket"...??? Any comments? Anyone ever try these? I don't like the
word "aftermarket"... maybe these are some "el cheapo" Taiwanese pieces that
will not retain the code well...or...?

I don't see why those wouldn't work, but I've seen some where the plug holding
the chip comes out. Wouldn't want to lose that chip out in the middle of
    nowhere...

Don't even ask the salesdude at the dealership, they usually say something
ridiculous like $50! Go to the parts counter yourself. My extras cost $18, and
the guy behind the counter cut the blanks to fit. I had to code them myself, but
    that only takes a minute.

Does he mean just for the key blank alone or for the key and also the remote
thing? I asked my dealer for an extra key and he said probably about
$100... but for the key AND the remote as well. It should be less for just
    the keyblank only.

You can pick up Factory remotes all day long on Ebay...
    $100 is ludicrous!
    Have a look at this:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33723&item=2430137 956

You can get a PAIR of remotes for $29-39
