    Kenwood M4524 - Audi A4 2003 : static and power problems.

    Hi,

I hope you guys can help me because I don't know
    anymore...

    I've just got a new Audi A4 (2003)TDi with a
    new Kenwood M4524G car-radio/cd/mp3.

    1) The FM reception is OK at the beginning of
the ride, but after 10-15 minutes -> lots of
static on the FM reception. CD sounds just
perfect, not a problem there so it's really
with the radio part of the radio, not with
    the speakers.

Earthing problem ? Antenna problem ?

    2) Whenever I turn off the engine, the radio goes
dead...OK but I would like it to switch off when
I pull my key out of the ignition not when I turn
off the engine. Furthermore to get the radio playing
again, I've got to turn the ignition so that
my heater and everything else starts working aswell
    (not good for the battery).

I've had my radios (Pioneer, Grundig, Sony) setup
like I want in my previous cars (Polo, Golf, Passat)
without any special cabling (except for the classic VW
12V trick) but I can't seem to get it to work
    on my Audi :-(

I've tried the following cabling combiniations :
    Car red = A4 = ignition
    Car yellow = A7 = constant 12V
    Radio red = ignition
    Radio yellow = battery

A)Settings are saved but radio switches off
when ignition is turned with key still in ignition
    Car Radio
    red - red
    yellow - yellow

    B) not good since the radio is no longer supplied
with a constant 12V to save its settings -> settings
    are lost.
    Car Radio
    red - yellow
    yellow - red

C)according to the manual this should disable
the automatic switching on/off of the radio...but
it doesn't :-( it's the same behaviour as in B)

    Car Radio
    red - red
    red - yellow
    yellow - <unattached>

    Any ideas ???

(I'm going to ask my audi dealer next week, but
    it bugs me not knowing.)

    Thanks

    Simon

Did you use a signal seperator/preamp interface? ie.

The above refers to 'bee sting' aerials, but also applies to integral
glass aerials on a lot of Audis.

The ignition switched feed on that age of vehicle is almost certainly
CAN Bus. To connect an aftermarket radio so it switches on key
removal, you'll probably have to locate the switch feed on the back of
the ignition barrel. Depending on the radio's ignition switched feed
current consumption, you may well then have to fit a relay in line to
    give the feed sufficient capacity.

Okay, that's probably it. I'm going to check this out.
Strange that I didn't have any problems in my VW cars...

    going to check this out.

    Thanks again for the response.

    Simon.
