Jeep: Just gotta vent a bit.

Just gotta vent a bit.
got quotes on replacing the exhaust system for my 97 Cherokee.
(Exhaust manifold is fine but everything else needs to go for various
reasons of rust, dents, etc).
The cheapest quote was $750, the most expensive $1200 (with a "limited
lifetime" guarantee that does no good at all if I bang it on a rock
again).
I found the parts myself (all new, INCLUDING the cat)...total $200
Thank God my inspection is good until after the weather warms up so I
can fire up the good old "flame wrench" and do the job myself!
Sorry, I was just so shocked at this I had to vent someplace!

Re: Just gotta vent a bit.
I think that ol' "Blue-Tip-Wrench" will let let you take out some aggression
on your exhaust system...even to the extent of providing some extra wheel
clearance for your tires by "adjusting" your fenders...
....very good for the stress levels...

But, it is being professionally installed, ha, ha, ho, ho, he, he, there
coming to take me away.

Re: Just gotta vent a bit.
I had a 'Cat Back' exhuast system installed, with a 'lifetime' warranty for
only $150. Was quoted the Cat for only an additional $120.

Re: Just gotta vent a bit.
Were the more expensive quotes for stainless steel? Some 100K plus
miles later, my 97XJ still has the original stainless steel exhaust
system on it. If it's a daily drive vehicle, or you live in an
environment (like I do), where they use salt on the road during the
winter, then the stainless would have been better in the long run. If
you do lots of off-road, then the route you're going would be best,
as it will get ding'd or knocked off eventually.

Good point but my system is not stainless and I specified no stainless
as I do knock it about a bit every now and then. I REALLY wish the
cat could go someplace other than it's current highpoint "bullseye"
position though!
