    Which jeep to buy

I am thinking of buying a mid 90s used full size 4x4 with a towing package. Not sure which year yet but thinking between 98 and 94. Couple of questions.

When did Jeep quit using R-12 and start using R-134 in the airconditioner.

Where are the critical points where Jeeps rust?

Which years seem to have the most problems with transmissions and differentials?

Are some engines more problematic than others?

FWI I do a lot of my own maintenance so brakes, WB, water pumps, alternators etc are not a problem. I don't do body work. Help in scoping out a target car would be very much appreciated. Thanks, in advance!

    Re: Which jeep to buy

I had a CHerokee from 1990-2002 with the 4L motor. Great vehicle, stout
motor. Ran it to 250k miles, no major problems.

Bought a 97 Grand in 2002. It is full time 4WD. I would not get that
again, eats too much gas. It has the 5.2L motor, great for towing. The 4L
    towed good too.

I am now going to buy another Grand. Looking at a 2004 Grand.

All grands have crappy rear axles, lots of noise back there.

Buy the best you can afford with the lowest miles, you will be happy.

I don't 4 wheel with mine, but getting up slick boat ramps is a lot easier
    with 4WD.

This is why I like my GC with selec-trac. 2WD normally, but I can do
full time 4WD year round if I want to eat the gas cost, or do 4-hi/4-lo.

And 1995. Or at least that is what my owners manual and factory
service manual and the local air conditioner shop claim.

My daughter's 95 date code is acually 96, apperently they ran over because
there was no 96 being produced, so maybe the later 95s got it.

My '94 has R134 (had a popped line and the repair guy told me they started
mid-year of '94 production...according to his online database he uses)
