Nissan: Japanese are very good at taking ideas and making them better. Would there be a market if they made a Ferari/lamborgini lookalike and charged less$$?

Japanese are very good at taking ideas and making them better. Would there be a market if they made a Ferari/lamborgini lookalike and charged less$$?

    Dear all:

Call it a silly childhood idea, but I have had this idea for the
last fifteen years. I first drew these plans when I was in high
    school.

My idea is this: Make a car that is in every way the cross
between the Ferari F-50 and the Lamborgini Koontach (crossing them
because you don't want to infringe on copyrights), but put a rice
burner engine under the hood. You will end up with a sharp-looking
sports lookalike car, but with a price tag of $20K instead of 159k,
because you use an afforable engine.

I guess the question boils down to this: do people buy the F50
or the Lambo for the looks for for the 12 cylinder 500+ horsepower
engine? I guess that is the question. I for one would not mind just
having the looks of a sleek car that is shiny and good looking and
looks aggressive! Imagine a hot red or a bright racing yellow colored
    sports-like-car that cost about $20K!

It has been on my drawing board for the last fifteen years. I
am finally courageous enough to talk about my idea. I ran the idea by
a friend today. His opinion is that people would not want to buy a
slow moving Lamborrari or a Ferragini. It seems that if anyone bought
such a car, they would immediately be called-out as a poser. His
opinion is that people wouldn't want to be called posers.

I humbly come to this group to look for some second opinions.
Do you think there would be a market for a great looking sports car
that has the sleek looks of the Ferari and the Lambogini, but is made
by a Japanese company, carrying a great price tag?

Remember, this discussion is only for fun. Please don't rip me
too much for simply having an idea.

I wish toyota, honda, Mazda, or Acura or Nissan would take a
risk and make a car like that and market it just for what it is: ie a
sleek looking car but NOT a sports car (ie don't try to market it as a
sports car and don't try to compete with the real Ferari or Lambogini
in terms of performance.) Simply Just market it for what it is: a
Non-sports car that just looks every bit as hot and aggressive and
inviting as the top of the line V-12 cars.

Looking forward to some good discussion.

An alternative is to make a car that looks everybit like the the
Porche 911, and put a rice-burner in there. The smaller body MAY go
better with the readily available rice-burning i-VTEC engines. Price
tag?: 20K instead of the $70 to $80k of a porche.

    signed: Moser.

p.s: think about the Miata. It is just a simply good looking fun
sport-look alike car that has a fairly decent loyal following. So, we
can look to the Miata for some clues as to how well my idea may work.
    .. . . just a thought.

There are vehicles available today, similar to what you propose.
They are known as 'Kit Cars.' Do they sell? For
the most part, no, not very well. If you have the millions
it would cost to invest, buy a dealership or buy a couple
McDonald's franchises, better yet put your money in the stock
market, retire and move to place with a good climate, WBMA

Or are you seriously asking for something like that but powered by a 1.6 4-

On second thoughts, I'll rephrase that:

It appears to be rather poorly translated from German and is barely
    readable...

Re: Japanese are very good at taking ideas and

Sadly, I'm sure there are some people out there that would buy them, just
like there were idiots that bought lambo kit car bodies to put on those
pontiac fiero chassis' many years ago. I think it's a dumb idea. I agree
with your friend, I would laugh at somebody in a car like that. It's just
lame. Who cares if it looks hot, aggressive and inviting if it's slow. My
next sports car purchase will be based on the following order: Speed, Price,
Looks. The faster & cheaper it is, the better. I'm not out to impress anyone
with my car, I just want to go fast and be economical, like the sprite
commercials used to say, "image is nothing". I've been wanting a honda s2000
for awhile now, recently I started thinking, and I never thought I'd say it,
but now I am consdering buying a Hyundai Tiburon, 6 speed, 170hp, 0-60 in
7.2, 26mpg highway. That's faster than a 2004 Honda Si hatchback, and half
the price of an s2000. It's also lower profile, visually speaking, do you
think a cop is going to notice a silver hyundai tiburon instead of a bright
red s2000? It's not about standing out & being noticed, it's about blending
in with the crowd & getting away with stuff while the other guys who are
driving hopped up bright red and yellow rice burners get popped for
speeding. It's all about the "sleeper" look.

    Just my opinion.

    Exactly,

My friend could always tear around in his Buick Grand National because
it looked like your ordinary box style car driving around town even though
it was fast. Cops were not attracted to this car. They always seam to
notice the Hot red fast looking cars!

I think the whole idea of Buick being mostly an old mans car these days
    helped the situation..

ask the crew and passengers to abandon ship before it was sunk. The
'Q' boat opened the holds raised the guns to deck height and/or
dropped the sides and opened fire on the sub. It was most un-sporting
for an armed ship to pretend to be a civilian merchant ship. 'U'
boats took to sinking the shipping without asking the crew and
    passengers to leave first.

Along these same lines, I saw an article in a kit car magazine once,
about a guy who invested about $90K into a Fiero with a Lamborghini kit
body. He had the interior, wheels, the works, down exactly like the
original. He even took it to a Lambo dealer, who was completely
fooled...until he looked under the hood. It was a really impressive job.

There are good kit cars out there. Cars where you don't take a Fiero
and slap some fibreglass on it. You take a nicely made tube-frame
chassis, and put a real engine and transmission into it, make a real
performance car out of it. Something capable of being a supercar killer
for a fraction of the cost. However, I don't think many of those have
    I-4 engines.
