Hyundai: Interchangeability between Lantra (Europe) and Elantra (US)?

Interchangeability between Lantra (Europe) and Elantra (US)?
Hi,
I have a 2000 Elantra GLS wagon that I bought in the US. About 1.5 years
after I bought it, the automatic transmission needed to be replaced under
warranty. Hyundai stood by it, no problem.
Since that time, I have moved to Germany and shipped the car here as well.
That was almost two years ago. I have now been told that the transmission
needs to be replaced AGAIN.
One concern: In Europe, Hyundai doesn't sell the Elantra; but they sell the
Lantra. I've seen several that look at least outwardly to be virtually
identical.
Does anyone know whether a Lantra transmission would work in an Elantra? I'm
still trying to see if I can get this under warranty since I'm still under 5
years/100,000 miles...trying to hash out whether tha fact that I'm now in
Europe is an issue. Hopefully, I can avoid having to have a new
transmission shipped from the US.
I had to have the windshield replaced last year, and they were able to use a
Lantra windshield.
Thanks,
Mike

To my knowledge, they are the same vehicle, but there may be different
electronics or gearing for different countries of sale. So, trannies
available in the U.S. may not be available elsewhere, and vice versa. I
presume this is an automatic. If you give me the production date and
engine size or vin, I can give you the part number for the new
transmission. Part number should be universal.

Do you know if this applies to automatic transmission for Sonata v6 and then
if in european sonatas there is no need to update TCM programming?

I really have no idea. The only way to tell would be to get the part
number for each and see if they are different.
