Nissan: Installing Nissan Birdview GPS system

Installing Nissan Birdview GPS system
Can anyone tell me what is required to install the Nissan Birdview GPS
system as an after sales option? I have a 2003 Nissan Almera Tino but
due to a special sales deal I could not order the GPS option when I
purchased the vehicle last year from Nissan (Spain). I understand that
the Almera Tino is pre-equipped for GPS but what does it actually
involve to install it? My Nissan dealer isn't very clear about it (or
doesn't know) and actually suggested I install a Garmin Street Pilot
2610. It seems rather a shame to already have the display available in
the dash and then be obliged to use a different much smaller display
for the GPS.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It would not be a simple install. You'd need the head unit, DVD Drive, GPS
antenna, Speed Sensor and the wiring loom. Look at spending in excess of
£2000 on parts alone. Even then you would have a system that is muss less
capable than a PocketPC based Nav System that could also alert you to Speed
Cameras etc and be useable outside the car.

You might want to solicit comments in the GPS-related newsgroups,
sci.geo.satellite-nav and alt.satellite.gps
There are some good reasons why people choose to use 'handheld'
GPS receivers in vehicles, rather than using built-in systems.
