Install radar dector in 2000 Pathfinder

    I'd like to hot-wire install a Valentine 1 into my 2000 Pathfinder. I
know how to do it when wiring from the fuse box (I hook it into the
ignition so it goes on/off with a turn of the key). But now I'd like to
hot wire into the overhead console. If this is possible, how do I get
the console off and which wires in the overhead are attached to the
    ignition? Thanks,
    Adam

I just wanted to commend you for taking the effort to protect yourself.
There are a lot of fools that still think detectors don't work.

    Good job.

I can't remember that far back to doing my y2k Pathy, but on the '02
and 03 models I had/have, there is a phillips screw inside the
sunglass drop down. After it's out, there are 4 snap/hooks that are
just press fit. Work a screwdriver under the edge of the overhead
    console and pry it loose.

As the the wiring, there is both a ground and 12VDC hot all the time
in the harness. You can use a R/S phone plug wire (with the 4 wires)
or make your own out of a phone cord line. Use a 12 volt test light
to find the hot and ground.

    Takes all of 10 minutes.

    Hi Chuck,

Right on. The console came out just as you described it. I don't have
a 12v tester (although I do have a Radio Shack voltmeter that probably
could do it for me if I knew what to do). Any suggestions on ways to
find out which are the live hot wires, that is, how I can tell which
wire is hot without testing? I'm going to repost this last part.
    Thanks again,

    Adam

I have the V1 myself and it works awesome! It paid for itself many times
    already. They definitely work!

I use the wiring in the plug/socket for the overhead lights. I think
there are only 4 wires up there, but can't recall which is hot and
which is ground. I do remember that if you use a std telephone cord
for the V-1, you have to reverse the red/green (red being ground and
green being hot) for the V-1 to work.

If you have a VOM you should be able to trace which is which. Set the
VOM to DC volts and you're there.
