Increase gas mileage?
Anyone got any tips on improving gas mileage in a Wrangler Sport?

Re: Increase gas mileage?
- don't drive it ?
- sell it and buy a hybrid ?
- drive in neutral down hill with the wind ?
dont mean to sound like a smart ass ; ) but I dont think there is going to
be much we can do to improve the mileage of a brick in the wind. ..
seriously..
maybe just the usual maintenance things; clean filters, injectors, wax it,
maybe a tad more air in the tires, drive lightly on the accelerator ?
to me it is still a lot of fun at $2.25/gallon

Yeah, me too. I mean I spend $1.00 or so every time I pull the
trigger at the range so what the heck! <grin>. Plus the fact that I
take public transportation throughout the week so I figure I'm coming
out ahead in the long run.

Re: Increase gas mileage?
If your only driving on hardball, switch the tires to something more
street-like. On my '88 Cherokee, I went down to size in the owner's manual
(205/70R15), from the 235/75R15 tires the previous owner had on it (which
was recommended by the tire store's computer) - and I gained 5mpg - now gets
20-21mpgs highway.

I've a '89 Cherokee that gets the same mileage. Make sure there
aren't any vacuum leaks to get it though.

Re: Increase gas mileage?
A question: is the odometer recalibrated following the tire switch? If
not, then it will appear to be getting fabulous mileage only because with
the smaller tires it is artificially reading more miles over the same
distance.

take the top and doors off and enjoy the summer. i notice a slight increase
in mileage with top off due to less wind resistance.

Re: Increase gas mileage?
Recalibrated ??? Would the tire shop that he bought the over-sized tires
from, done that ??
Besides I routinely doublecheck against the highway mile markers when
traveling - and they seem to agree with the odometer.
