BMW: I don't understand the fun part in riding a tow truck...

I don't understand the fun part in riding a tow truck...

You people talk a lot about "fun" in connection with BMW and other
European vehicles - particularly Rover. In my fifteen years of
automotive inspections - see the www.precisiondiagnostics.net site,
pages "Interesting" and "Common Mistakes" for some impressive examples
of ridiculous failures. To me, dependability is no. 1 criteria while
"fun" is no. 3. No. 2 is convenience. And when no.1 and no.2 come
together, they compile no.3 - fun.
Maybe I don't get it but time spent at a dealership - and you - the
BMW fans - know how much time it takes to get a BMW fixed, and how
often it has to be done - takes ANY fun away.
Please, explain what kind of masochistic pleasure you get from this...

Do you own or have you even driven a BMW? Furthermore, BMW are quite
reliable, especially when it comes to running the car into 100k, 200k, and
beyond. I'd say their reliability is right below Japanese cars and above all
American cars. The first link I found from a yahoo search backs that up.
http://www.autooninfo.info/RelPerBMWCharts.htm I'm curious what leads you to
believe that BMWs are so unreliable.

Finally about your importance ratings. While I agree reliability is
important because a working car is funner than a sports car that doesnt
carry much weight with somebody looking for the ultimate driving machine. I
would give up some time and extra money to service the car for the rewarding
experience of driving a BMW vs a boring Japanese car, and like I said
earlier, that service (anything outside scheduled maint.) is rare.

The point of the OP is to make a few bucks from his pre-purchase inspection
service. It might have been a genuine question posed by an interested
individual but for the link to a commercial inspection site makes me believe
its a way to post his link without appearing like blatant spam. If he
posted hard data (umm, like identifying the type of problem found per brand
and the frequency of occurrence- i.e.: 1995 Brand X, model xx - loose
    framagramitaris, 22 found; 1985 Brand B, model B - bad what-its-name, 3
found) from those thousands of vehicles inspected over the past 15 years he
claims, then it might have provided more fodder for discussion.
