Infiniti: How to reset brake wear indicator light?

You didn't say which car specifically, so I'll assume it's pre-1996 and that
you'll be doing the work yourself. If it's after that, the description may
be similar, but I can't say for sure.

If your brakes are worn, the sensor(s) on the pads on the right side of the
vehicle will physically wear through. When the front pads are replaced, you
need to buy new pads that come with a new sensor. The old one has a
connector that unplugs from behind the wheel. If you follow the wire, you
will find out where. It's only about a foot long. Aftermarket pads generally
come with the sensor itself, but not the entire wiring harness. You need to
take the old sensor and cut it off about an inch behind where the wires went
into the old sensor in the old pad. The new one will come with metal
sleeves that can be crimped onto the wires on the harness, and onto the new
sensor. They also come with heat shrink tubing. You put that on before you
do the crimping, and then slide it over the crimped part and heat it evenly
with a lighter. Then put the end of the sensor in the new pad, replace the
pads plug the sensor back in, and you're done. Some places sell aftermarket
pads without the sensor, so be careful. I don't think you can get just the
front sensor, but the dealer might have it. It will probably include the
harness too and will probably cost more than a set of pads with the sensor.
You'd have to check that yourself if that's what you need.

If the back sensor wears out, that's a different story. The front one just
pushes into a hole in the pad. The back one pivots into a socket on the
rear brake pad. If the back one gets worn down, it gets removed when you
change the pads in a similar way to removing some automotive lightbulbs.
You then must pry out 2-3 anchors that snap into holes, and remove the end
of the connector. The entire harness must be replaced.

Unlike the front sensor, the rear one never comes with the replacement pads.
You must buy it separately. It's not cheap either. Therefore, I'd
recommend changing all the pads at the same time rather than waiting for the
rear ones to wear out, unless you will be checking them very regularly. This
sensor is also harder to find, but here are a few links. The ones shown are
for a 1991, but I'm pretty sure it's the same sensor from 8/1989-6/1995
production date vehicles. You should of course verify that it's the correct
one for your car before ordering it. If you search the same sites for your
model year, you'll find that out.
