Dodge: how to get "Maint Required" light to go out?

how to get "Maint Required" light to go out?

My wife has a 92 Dodge Caravan with 74000 miles. At 60K, it was
supposed to get a tuneup which included a timing belt change.

It just so happened that the timing belt got changed at 47K (the
mechanic decided to do it early, he was changing the water pump
anyway), and by the time it got to 60K, all the other stuff that would
have been done at 60K had already been done.

But at 60K the Maint Required light on the dashboard came on, probably
because it expected the timing belt to be changed. The car is so old
that my mechanic's computer system doesn't know how to reset the light
(or something like that; I may have garbled the explanation).

How can the light be turned off?

There are specific emissions components that are scheduled to be
checked at 60K miles on this vehicle. This does NOT mean that
anything has failed (not the same as a check engine light
    illuminating).
To make the light go out, one merely needs to plug in a
compatible scan tool, go to the appropriate menu and command the
    light to go out

Or neatly place a piece of black electrical tape over the light and forget
    it :-)

    Wow! A 92 with 74,000 miles? Mine's a little over 176,000 now... :-)
Anyway...I did have that pop up on mine once or twice out of the blue,
apparently you have to take it to someone who has a computer system to get
that to reset it. As I understand it, it's tripped on every some many miles
or something? Hasn't happened to me enough times to put my finger on it.
Maybe someone can confirm that it's every 60k? If so, I'll be seeing it
    again before too long! :-)

That is true - it is a maintenance reminder light. Somewhere in your
owner's manual it will state that. I removed mine. The only way to get it
to turn off is to have someone with the proper computer equipment to reset
it. just pull the bulb. it's a whole lot cheaper.

pull the bulb. it is a periodic reminder that can only be turned off by a
    coputer connection to your ECM.
