HLP: Geo Metro Not Starting !
1994 Geo Metro
1.3L 4 cylinder, 5 Speed Manual
The car was used most of the day, ran fine. Came home for a couple of hours,
I just went out to start it and its like the battery is dying but not.
Almost like there's not enough juice. Although now its raining, can that be
it?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Geo Metro Not Starting !
Is it flat out NOT cranking at all, or just maybe a slow crank or an odd
clicking or grinding?
How old is the battery? Batteries do die from old age, so it could simply
be a worn out battery.
Is there any corrosion on the battery terminals? Are the cables connected
snug? Turn on your headlights or dome light while attempting to crank the
engine. Are the lights bright or dim to start with? If they are bright, do
they dim down to almost nothing when attempting to crank?
If still in doubt on whether or not it's just a bad connection or a bad
battery, push start that sucker and drive to your favorite parts store for a
(usually) free load test on the battery.

Re: Geo Metro Not Starting !
Thanks Steve !
I cleaned up the terminals battery terminals, geez it looked like it was one
of those copper roofs you see that have turned green after so many year.
Lots of greenish stuff, i cleaned it off wiped down all the cables and poof
she started.
Hmm by the way, i never push started a standard, hard to do?
Have a great day & thanks to all that responded.

Re: Geo Metro Not Starting !
I dunno 'bout a 1994 Metro, but the 1992 has pretty cheap battery cables and
terminators. Very thin, flimsy feeling. And the positive terminal has a
boot that goes over it that only helps to trap in moisture.
As far as push starting, it's pretty simple in a Metro.
Turn ignition to the RUN position. If you are on a hill, stick it in Neutal
and get the vehicles rolling. After you get up to a few MPH, just stick it
in first or second gear and let out the clutch. It should start pretty
easily.
Not on a hill? Just get someone to push ya and do the same thing!

Re: Geo Metro Not Starting !
Yes i got exactly the same flimsy cables and whats with those connectors?
They are like something you'd see in a childrens "Mecano" set...
I gotta get those changed, especially on the positive where the boot was
your right thats where most of the corrosion was.
Thanks once again for the info...i gotta go try push starting this thing for
the hell of it..

Re: Geo Metro Not Starting !
Ok, so now i can get it started by pushing it, but for some reason when i go
to start it back up its like its dead and all the lights and stuff still
come on pretty normally.
The other day i was drivin and all i heard was like about 50 ticks come from
the drivers side under the hood or dash, any ideas?
