    HELP: BMW buying tips

Hi there, I am considering buying BMW .. think of 540i... I have never
visited any BMW dealership. I only owned north american cars previously.

I am from Toronto Canada, and here, I can only allocate several BMW dealers.
    My question is:

    1. Is price on new BMW negotiable? if so .. how much discount is a good
discount on a new BMW viechle?

    2. Is it worth a going other BMW dealers to compare prices? or are they
sort of 'networked' in terms of pricing?

    Please reply this msg to

    com

    I appriciate your insight.
    Thank you.

Decide exactly what you want and then play each against the other. Tell
them best price wins. Ignore the crying.

You can get a good starting price at carsdirect.com or autobytel.com Don't
believe what they tell you that it is the best price. Costco also has a
    good starting price.

Price is always negotiable. Now is a great time to buy the 5-series,
    because
they are coming out with a new model starting next month. If you can find
one on a lot you like, you should be able to get it for about $1000 over
    invoice.

No, there is some variation in dealers.

Check the current dealer incentives. I purchased my 2003 5er when there was
    a US$ 3,000 (525), 4,000 (530) and 4,500 (540) incentive. I suspect Canada
has something similar to clear the inventory. There are no dealer
holdbacks, etc so there's no hidden profit in the negotiation.

My final purchase price was $1500US under invoice (actually $2000, the
dealer also ate a mandatory $500 advertising fee passed on from the dealer
he got the car from). I would think you could do as well.

How did you (or more to the point - how can I) determine the current dealer
incentive? Edmonds.com and Kelly Blue Book are showing prices for the 5
series below invoice so it seems there must be an incentive but I haven't
    been able to confirm it.
    Thanks
    Ron
