Subaru: Great experience with Redline synthetic oil.

A quick Google shows that Vailchalet posted this to at least 6
newsgroups. Is it just me, or does this smell of a commercial, not
personal, endorsement?

Since I use Mobil 1 (engine/transmission/differential) and have gotten
~150,000 miles with no lube related problems I would like to hear from
Subaru and other owners who run Redline products and get 150,000 + miles.

I run cheap oil (Castrol usually) and change it every 5,000 miles and my one
'95 Legacy has over 300,000 without an oil related issue.. My othe r two
Legacys ('99 SUS, '95 sedan) have 210,000 and 110,000 respectivly and have
had no problems but I did get those two used.
I think the main thing is to have the crankcase full of oil. TG

Clean oil! I change my Subie's oil more frequently than you (3000-3500
miles but the engine's got 340k "less than babied" miles--lots of dirt
roads), the g/f changes her "new" Honda at 5,000 like you. I've run
Castrol GTX in most of my engines, she runs it in hers, no complaints
from either of us. I wouldn't say it's "cheap" oil just cuz it's dino
oil. Synthetics have their place, though in my experience they may be a
bit overrated. It would be fun to take two cars as identical as
possible, fill one with synthetic, the other with dino oil, and take off
to do a real life head to head, identical driving, identical oil
changes, filters, other maintenance: no guessing! Anyone got any spare
grant money laying around?
