Grand AM Clutch problem..
'98 Grand AM GT, 5 speed. Motor off, depress pedal and can shift altho not freely. Attempt to start motor with pedal depressed, car jumps forward or reverse (depending on gear of course). Could this be a broken cable, linkage or does it sound like total clutch failure?
Help!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Grand AM Clutch problem..
Not sure about the 98 but the 96 was still a hydraulic clutch. Small fluid
reservoir up high on the firewall right in front of the driver. About 3
inches in diameter and a couple of inches tall with a screw off cap. Might
check it for fluid or broken hose.

Re: Grand AM Clutch problem..
Ooh, had that happen to my brand new 2002 neon 2 months after I got it.
Pretty fun to drive 8 miles home through town. Had to do rolling stops in
first gear. Come to find out, leak in master cylinder for clutch. Brake
fluid was leaking past master cylinder through firewall and down onto
floormat.

Re: Grand AM Clutch problem..
More than likely a bad slave cylinder.
