    golf mk2 driver 1.8 speakers

hi, i have a very standard mk2 driver with speaker grilles in the
front doors and standard ones at the back with a clarion head unit,
    single cd/radio.

    sound is not very good.

what is the easiest and cheapest way to improve the sound quality?
dont need anything amazing, just reasonable speakers for music with ok
    bass.

    thanks

    Hi

You can get a 5 1/4 inch (13cm) speaker in the front if you already
have the pockets. There is a huge choice of 13 cm speakers so it's
really up to your budget, go for a coaxial not a dual cone. Adding a
component set to the front will really improve and lift the sound but
also cost more and mean you have to install the tweeter somewhere.

The rear positions will take a 6X4 inch speaker in the standard
position. Quite limited on choice here, I think Pioneer still make the
TS-4628 speaker. Or you could put 6X9 cut into the rear shelf which
will give lots of volume and are great if you are on a budget. The
rear shelf on the golf is full of holes however and could always do
with a bit of MDF adding to it if you are going to cut speaker into
it. (again all more install time and money)

thankyou very much, can you recommend any online retailers or shops
where i could get the 5 1/4 and 6 x 4 speakers? would rather not mess
about with the parcel shelf. am i right saying that it is very
probable that the weakest link is the original speakers and not the
    head unit? thanks, ben

Yep spot on Ben, probably the speakers causing the problem now. First
thing to do is always replace the factory fitted radio, next is the
speakers or add a sub to give better sound. You could check out Car
Audio Plus for some speakers, I have a link from my blog www.blogcaraudio.co.uk
top banner, mid way down the left hand sidebar. Hope it goes well,
    post up your progress.

    Best Regards
