BMW: Gas prices out of control

    Gas prices out of control

Fuel prices have never been this high. Since February 1999, the price of
regular gas has risen by 92% from 90.7 Cents to $1.74 per gallon. This is
way above the inflation level for the same years. There is this web site
(www.storydata.com) that has been gathering fuel price data and shows the
changes since 1995. The trends are alarming!

WTF cares, I don't even buy tomatoes!

How exactly do you fill up for $15? you just put in $15 worth each time? If
that's the case, then you will notice your tank if not ass full as it used
    to be.

It only costs me $5-10 to fill the tank on my motorcycle. That is sure
better then the $40 for my truck.

I would like to see the gas prices keep going up though. hopefully it will
convince some of these soccer moms that the Hummer H2 is not the best choice
    for grocery shopping.
Im not saying I hate big SUVs and trucks, but when you look around, you will
notice a lot of Ford Excursions and Yukon XLs with no one else inside but
the driver. If you have a need for a big truck or SUV then great! But too
many people are buying them just for status. And buying them so you feel
"safer" doesn't cut it. What they really mean is, "I am a bad driver, and I
never pay attention to the road while I am talking on my cell, so I need
something that can smash through what ever poor sap I neglected to see
stopped at the red light I was going to blow through." Am I a little vane?
Getting rear-ended by an inattentive SUV driver while on my motorcycle will
    do that.

Raise those gas prices! dry out those gas hawgs! bring it on!

Americans suck! gas prices go up a Nickel and they start to riot, yet gas
prices are still half that of gas in the UK.

Here in Southern California everyone has a big ol SUV that gets about 10-15
MPG. So I am sure some of them are filling up for $100 or so.... I just hope
driving that Cadillac Escalade gives them enough status to make up for it.

I would think bus fairs would go up too though. Since they have to pay more
    for fuel as well.

Gasoline taxes pay for road construction.

Traffic tickets more than cover the traffic-related costs of law
    enforcement.

Would this not be more related to the cost of a car?

And just how do you price this? (I know the answer, but I doubt you do.)
Most of use have no observable degradation of quality of life because of
automobole emissions. On the other hand, many of us get great increases
in quality of life from the consumption of gasoline.

The opportunity cost of using gasoline is lower than the opportunity
cost of not using gasoline. That is, most people have a little mental
balance sheet: on one side, there is gasoline use, whcih comes with
benefits like time savings, convenience, and the economic benefits of
having goods brought to their vicinity cheaply, and costs such as
increased smog and ozone, and congestion. On the other side of the
balance sheet we have less use of gasolinbe, which leads to less smog
and ozone, but also leads to less convenience and freedom, and higher
    costs for other goods.

The population's invisible hand tells us that people in the US are
happier to use gasoline than not use it.

That's about the only one I agree with you on. There is no need for us
to try and police the Middle East. Let the people there have their civil
wars and sort it out for themselves. regardless, whoever wins will still
sell us crude oil cheaper than anybody else can. FWIW, no US involvement
in the Middle East would weaken OPEC and lead to lower crude prices.

they will only double if you tax gasoline to pay for non-associated
public services (which is the case in the UK). It'll never happen here.

    No it isn't.

    Who will wake up?

If energy shortages are a problem for future generations, then they will
figure out how to deal with it. Humans always have.

Like that's accessible to everybody. And, of course, public transport
recieves far higher subsidies than any other sector of the
    transportation industry.

Have you been to Orange County lately? Go to the shopping centers and take a
look in the parking lots. You will notice at least half the the vehicals in
the parking lot are some kind of SUV or truck. I have gone to the store a
few times and it looked like a used car lot for suberbans... both sides of
an entire row in the parking lot was nothing but Suburbans and Yukon XLs.

I have a problem with them hitting me with them. They get a big ol SUV and
think they are safe, so they stop paying attention, and BOOM! I get pushed
into the middle of the intersection (which was red for me and the SUV that
was going to run it) so then I am standing in the middle of the intersection
with my motorcycle on the ground, and the whole back end smashed. They jump
out and say "Im so sorry! I didn't see you there!" Its hard to miss a bright
    red jacket.
