Jeep: Gas Cap vs Chk Engine Light

Gas Cap vs Chk Engine Light
RE 2002 Jeep Cherokee, 6 Cyl.
I had a problem passing the State of NJ emissions test. The guy said it was
the gas cap. But, it passed and I happily left. Now, I have a Chk Engine
Light. The car runs beautifully. Could this be the gas cap acting up? Is
there a way to confirm the Check Eng light without a second mortgage on the
house?
Thanks for your help. Gary

Re: Gas Cap vs Chk Engine Light
Go to Auto Zone they will use a scan tool for free and can reset the check
engine light for you too. The largest cause of the check engine light is
the gas cap most of the time it will be a P0454 or P0455 a leak in the
emissions control system. Buy a new cap that Auto Zone it makes them feel
good after using the scan tool.

Re: Gas Cap vs Chk Engine Light
Could be as was the case with my wife's 02 Liberty. They dealer
hooked up the computer, and it showed a O2 sensor, and gas
cap seal we bad. Both were replaced under warranty, so if your
XJ is still warranted, let DC foot the bill.
