I think, it's 'simply' accorded to sunrise and -set. May be you have the
chance to have a look at at your local dealer. Compare hunting/fishing
to sunrise/-set ... I can't tell closer, cause I'm neither hunter nor
fisher :-)

It's not that simple. The calculations is based on solunar tables which do
take into account Moon and Sun. Since tides relate to the same, there is a
relation there as well.
In any case, few of my friends swear by these tables. I used to be a sceptic
but my casual observations appear to confirm the increased activity in
animal kingdom at the times indicated. Come to think about it, the real
reason why I don't depend on this info too much is that I hate to be told
that my chances of getting the game are slim...
