Garmin 2610 mount question
I'm just getting ready to order the Garmin 2610 for my first GPS unit.
I've seen the bean bag mount and am not sure it is going to work in my
truck. I drive a 2002 F150 and the dash is curved. The only flat spot is
in front of the passenger.
I'm wondering how I'm going to be able to mount this thing. I'll need
for it to be removable so I can also use it in my other vehicles and to
prevent theft. I was looking at some RAM mounts at http://www.ram-
mount.com/ but I haven't found one that will work well on a curved dash.
Surely other people have had this scenario. What are some solutions
people have come up with.
Thanks

Re: Garmin 2610 mount question
The bean bag mount will probably sit on your dash fine. It has an anti skid
material on the bottom. It doesn't move on my dash even on hard corners. It
also comes with a mount that can be stuck on the dash. It comes with a
permanent double sided tape disc and a removable one. The same type mount is
attached to the beanbag. The unit can be unclipped from one and placed in
the other. I use the beanbag mount because it is easy to lift off and place
out of sight when I leave the van or remove and put in another vehicle...

Re: Garmin 2610 mount question
I used the RAM windshield suction mount with my GPS V for a long time
and love it. I attach it to the lower corner of the drivers side
windshield. I have a 2610 now and have ordered the same.
I also ordered a spare 2610 DC cord and have detached the cig lighter
plug and intend on running the 2 power wires to a switched power point
in the car for a permanent mount with the speaker mounted in some good
place.

Go to a car stereo store that does installations (Car Toys, etc.).
They can do all sorts of wonderful things that aren't as industrial-
looking as RAM mounts. It's more expensive, but if aesthetics are
an issue or you don't see an easy way to do it yourselg, then it's
worth the money.

Bob, Bill, and Seagull, thanks for the replies.
Bob, where did you order the spare DC cord? Please keep me posted on how
this works out. If you power off the 2610 (via ignition or any other
way, don't you lose the "tracking data" such as the amount total time of
a trip. For instance, if I'm travelling across country and stop for a
bite to eat, if I kill the power to the 2610, do I lose the elapsed trip
time data, etc.?
Also, if I end up using the bean bag mount on a curved dash, won't the
GPS unit be crooked, or does it swivel so I can make it level?
Last question, do you remember what model RAM mount you ordered and from
where?
Thanks a bunch.

We have the 2610/2650 cigarette power cords in stock.
Please keep me posted on how
You won't loose it but it will quit calculating while the power is off
making your trip computer inaccurate.
You should be able to adjust it to the correct angle or pretty close.
You have a tilt and swivel adjustment.
We stock RAM mounts but have not yet received the 2610 mounts yet.
Should get them any day now.

checking your site over the next few days to see if they've arrived.
Or you could post it here.
Thanks again.

No I won't be posting that here as an announcement by itself. There are
a few people with way too much time on their hands that love to bitch and
whine when I use to put a **Dealer Ad** here or others post for sale ads. We
use to have two VERY valuable info. resources (Joe Mehaffey & Jack Yeasel)
posting here very often but they got so much static for it because they have
advertising on their website that they rarely post now. Who's loss was
that???? It seems that get rich quick, penis and breast enlargement, and the
greatest sex site ever posts are welcome though

I've purchased from Darrel before, everything went just fine. But I
have to disagree about the web site - it could really use some work.
