I can;t see why not. If you have a 12v powersupply that lasts long
enough , go ahead. The 2650 is another thing, since that needs some
extra stuff that stays in the car.

Ich möchte mein Garmin 2610 zusammen mit Fugawi verwenden. Leider
unterstützt Fugawi nur die Serielle Schnittstelle und USB nicht. Wer kann
mir weiterhelfen

I don't know the answer but will translate so the question reaches a wider

Konrad wants to use his 2610 with Fugawi software. Unfortunately Fugawi
only supports serial port (presumably RS-232) communication rather than the
USB of the 2610. He'd like help in making the two work together.

Is it possible to link the above unit directly to a laptop?
I'm thinking of GPS for the car and because we have a car pool I do not want
anything permanent.

Re: Garmin 2610
Based on your needs, I would say this would not be the unit for you. The
2610/2650 are really intended as permanent installations. The unit will not
operate off of battery, and it appears to only have a USB connection - no
serial. I am not sure if it can output NMEA to the USB port, but many
programs want to get that data from a standard serial port.
If I were you, I would wait about a month and take a look at this...

It is full color, waterproof, will operate off batteries, has USB and
standard serial connection, 56 MB memory, routable, etc. In my opinion, it
would suit your needs much better if you want something portable.

Re: Garmin 2610
You can move the unit from car to car. Just use the beanbag mount. It sits
on the dash and doesn't move with it's non skid bottom. The speaker/power
cord just plugs in the cigarette lighter socket. It will plug into a laptop
but not get power from it. It outputs Garmin protocol so Mopsource on the
laptop will track.

Yes, it is, using the USB cable. But why bother?
The unit comes with a portable bean-bag mount that works quite well and
makes it pretty easy to move from car to car. It's a little cumbersome,
but nowhere near as much as dragging out a laptop.

Garmin 2610 For A Motorcycle
I would love to see someone come up with a way to get the voice
commands to connect into the audio system on my Honda Goldwing.
Without voiding the warranty.
