    Re: Fuel economy

I was going back and forth to different manufacturer's Web sites looking at
fuel economy stats... then I found www.storydata.com, and clicked on the
picture of the Honda Insight. They have a really cool applet that lets you
compare fuel economy in every car tested by the Department of Energy. With
gas prices at an all time high, it really pays to compare, and this web site
    makes it real easy.

    Cheers,
    Brent

Fuel consumption isn't by far the major cost of a car. In Europe fuel
prices are about 3 times higher then in the US and even here the it is
at most 20% of the costs. Now 20% is a big number by itself, but if the
mileage of 2 cars are 10% off, the real difference is 2% of the costs.
The valued decrease of the car is the biggest loss.
Then insurance, taxes, repairs and fuelconsumption begin to matter.
I'm not saying you should buy a SUV and drive it in 2nd gear on interstates
because the mileage doesn't matter but if you have 2 almost simular cars
and one is $1000 cheaper, the better mileage of the other will never
    compensate.

Just my 2 Eurocents (15% more expensive then US ones).

P.S. before I start an environmental issue here: I go to work on a bike
every day which is 8 miles a day. Not enough to get a Nobel price for,
I guess, but that really saves fuel.
