It is standard practice to not post sale items on ALL newsgroups. The few
that you saw preceding you have more than likely been warned to not post
sale items too.
In a word: It's not in keeping with NG etiquette to post sale items.
We're all bombarded with Spam everywhere. It's nice to have at least a few
places where someone isn't taking up our time trying to sell us something.

Thanks, but I checked the NG for existing For Sale posts before I posted.
There were about a dozen in the past 30 days... and hundreds preceding that.
If there is a Charter, I'll be glad to abide by it... but meanwhile, it
seems only a service to GPS'ers to be able to sell, trade their stuff so
long as done by individuals and not dealers and merchants.

the other. I THEN CHECKED the posting HISTORY to see if there were
ever any PREVIOUS For Sale posts of GPS RELATED ITEMS by
INDIVIDUALS... and I found many For Sale posts... many, many of them.
Hundreds.
I have probably been on NG's a lot longer than you have... and it is
NOT a STANDARD practice NOT to post items for sale. The etiquette is
simply decided NG by NG... not by a self-appointed NG policeman who
wants to make up the rules for a group. Newsgroups have Charters (set
of official rules) or they don't... this one doesn't. If this group
does NOT want any For Sale posts of items GPS related made by
individual members (not dealers)... that's okay by me. Just make some
official rules... hopefully inputted and approved by the entire
group... and move on.
