Corvette: frozen caliper

frozen caliper
I have a '71 with a driver's side caliper that locks up as the car
warms up. All other wheels are fine.
I've replaced the caliper on that side (both were replaced about a
year ago) and the master cylinder to no avail. Anybody familiar with
this syndrome?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you have any
suggestions you can write me at: com

Re: frozen caliper
Very intruguing. Perhaps a little more info. Front or rear? When you say
lock-up when the car warms up do you mean that after driving a distance and
applying the brake the one wheel locks up and skids or do you mean that the
wheel is locked from a standstill?

Never had it happen to me, but I've heard a flexible brake line can
develop such a problem... if it's not the caliper and not the master
cylinder, then doesn't it have to be something in between those two?

Re: frozen caliper
I understand that old rubber brake lines can swell over time (brake fluid
absorbed) decreasing the inside diameter, and when heated can close off
entirely, capturing the brake fluid within the caliper, making it appear
that the caliper is frozen. Try new brake lines. They're not terribly
expensive.

Re: frozen caliper
I don't know if they had them in '71, but the only active component that
could be between the two is a proportioning valve. If that messed up
though, I would expect both sides (both front or both rear) to have a
problem. I like "Oregon's" answer about the swollen lines. Throw that old
rubber crap out and replace them with SS (unless you're going for NCRS or
Bloomington).
