Jeep: Front Tow Hooks

    Front Tow Hooks

    Hi,

Jeep jamboree is in Ontario this weekend and next weekend, they require
Front Tow hooks among other things. So I gave the dealer a call, and the
informed me that each hook will be $100.00 plus, Also since my 93 Grand
Cherokee didn't come with Front Tow Hooks, I will need a Kit, which is no
longer available, So I will need to purchase all the mounting hardware
separately. At a $100.00 canadian a hook, the dealer part is not an
option. The dealer suggest hitch city. They have Universal Tow hooks, For
something like $16.00 I'm not sure if that is each or a pair. (For that
price they are probably made out of butter metal) yet no information on
mounting hardware required for a 93 Jeep Cherokee.

My question is where can I go in the after market, for front Tow hooks where
I won't get scaled and have all the mounting hardware that is Compatable
with a 93 Grand Cherokee ? preferably something bolt on, I hate drilling
holes and I am not skilled with a torch.

    Thank you,

No offense, but if you aren't willing to drill some holes and come up with
some hardware to mount the aftermarket hooks, you shouldn't be going to a
    Jeep Jamboree.
Buy the $10.00 aftermarket ones from a local parts store and bolt them to
the frame with the strongest (Grade 12) bolts that you can find. Take a look
at the existing holes in the front of the Jeep. There's a good chance that
the holes might line up with the aftermarket hooks anyway.

The problem is he has a ZJ, so he has no frame to bolt to. That's why
the OE hooks are so expensive, they need to include brackets to
    reinforce the unibody.

Rusty's sells a kit for $100 (US). Here's a link that shows the
    brackets needed.

    Whoops!
I missed the "Grand" part and thought that he had an XJ Cherokee!
    Sorry!

I was sort of thinking the same thing but I understand the jamboree
has tamed down quite a bit in recent years (with "trails" from the
serious hardcore down to a stroll for the pavement princesses).

Anyway, look at Rusty's offroad. Oh and you'll need more than just
hooks, you have a unibody not a frame so you'll need the
re-enforcement kit to properly attach those hooks (unless you want to
rip up your Cherokee like tinfoil and put others at risk should you
need to use the recovery hooks)

Thank you, for replying to my question, That is exactly what I am looking
for, no only if I could find a GTA (Toronto, Canada) supplier.

but I should clarify a few things, the dealer wanted a $102.00 Canadian
Approx $80.00 U.S for each hook, not including the kit for mounting, which
is no longer available, so i would need to buy each piece individually,

This leads me to a question with an aftermarket front tow hook being $10.00
and a Front Tow hook from a dealer being $100.00 dollars. Is there some
difference in material strength. ? are after market tow hooks any good ?
are the dealer Tow hooks overkill ? are all Jeep dealer parts outrageously
    expensive ?

    P.S.
I will drill holes, but hate it, much prefer a bolton solution

    Re: Front Tow Hooks

Personally I am a mustang guy, I bought the 93 Jeep Cherokee as a winter
vehicle, it performed much better than expected in the snow. I fell in
love with it, I am even considering selling the GT.

So now I am interested in Offroading, but lack the knowledge of where to
    start.

I am willing to invest some time and some money, but don't have the budget
to build a full blown rig, and buy the supercharger for the GT. $100.00 for
a tow hook kit, I can live with. if $100.00 per tow hook is indicative
of the cost of offroading I may need to give it up. Something has gotta
    give.

At this point I am looking for Stock friendly trails. Where the likely
hood of breaking something is low and not expected. maybe someday I will be
at the point where it is pointless to go offroad with out a torch under the
hood, but I am not there yet.

    Re: Front Tow Hooks

The local Jeep (Chrysler) dealer here in town charges $7.50 (US) for a $1.25
    gallon of washer fluid.
That should tell you something about their prices!
My Grandmother drives a Chrysler and since the owners manual says to use
Chrysler brand washer fluid, oil, antifreeze, etc. she does exactly that.
She showed me the bill for the washer fluid and I tried to convince her to
just buy the auto parts store stuff for $1.25 but she won't do it.
