Saab: Fog Lights

Fog Lights
My fog lights operate only when the light switch is in the head lights
on position and the fog light dash button depressed. When this is on, I
have no headlights
What is irksome is that this configuration does not allow the lights
to be tuned off (as would the head lights)and I have inadvertantly run
down the battery as a result.
Is this normal? Can it be easily altered so that the fogs too would
not operate with the key off?

I'm not sure I understand your post. If you are saying that you can
leave the "parking lights" on accidentally and run down the battery,
this is true. The reason for this design is so that you can leave
those lights on with the vehicle parked in an awkward position
somewhere. I've often thought that there should be some sort of
warning buzzer when opening the door and leaving these on since
you can easily do it by mistake.
As to your question on using the fogs: You can have a dealer
reprogram the computer so that you can put the fogs on or off
at any time. This won't stop you from leaving the parking lights
on but it will let you use the fogs with the headlights, which
might give you the same effect.

In mypost I id not mean to imply or seem to mean any problem with
parking lights.
Only to ask if it is norma for the fog lights on a '92 9k to be
?remain on when the key was "off" or removed. If it is so do I really
need to have the Saab dealer reprogram the computer? This seems like
overkill to me. But then automotive engineering is not my forte.
