This is the first extended warranty I've ever bought on a car... but I
hope/plan/intend to keep this car for years, and I have finally convinced
myself it isn't that bad of a deal.
I only got a 4/48 extension; I'm sure the dealer has an obscene profit
margin, but I was leaving a Jeep where one BIG concern was whether it was
going to break and leave me stranded in traffic one morning. The extended
warranty might give the dealer some additional profit - but it gives ME peace
    of mind.

But, in all honesty, thanks for your concern.

The Focus comes with a 3yr/36K warranty and a 100K extended
warranty as standard equipment, why do you need to buy one?

When I bought my 2003 ZX5 in June they were offering the extended warranty
"for free" or that amount as a credit towards a
longer warranty. Since I bought a 2000 and suffered thru many recalls (paid
for) and then after the 36,000 miles were up had other weird failures that
    weren't. And for PEACE of MIND - I figured an extra $700. for 5 years / 100,000
    miles was worth it.
I will have the car until it dies or I do...so
I figure it was a safe investment. Since I got mine on a Ford Z plan they
didn't make that much profit off me anyway. Linda

What do you to break transmissions in less than 100,000 miles?

In my case, just let the wife drive! Most (tranmissions) give in to her by
    60,000 miles!

In that case, I'd flush'n'fill every 25k. My wife is the same way.
