    FI Fuel Mileage

I have a 1988 Jeep Wrangler 4.2 L with a Hesco FI kit on it, headers, and
free flowing exhaust. Other then that it is 100 % stock. It seems that I can
not get any better then 15.8 to 16 MPG no matter how I drive it. This is a
combination of city / highway driving. Is this normal? Do thes things really
get this bad of gas milage all of the time? What can I expect when off road
crawling through the rocks. The rerson I ask is to try and figure out how
many gallons of extra gas should I take on the trail.

    Thanks

    Re: FI Fuel Mileage

    I just upgraded my '79 CJ5 from a 4.2L Carbureted to a 4.0L Fuel Injection
engine. My mileage went from about 10mpg to around 16-17mpg. Your numbers
sound about right. Remember, your Jeep's aerodynamics are on par with a
large cinder block. Bad for gas mileage.

As far as offroading goes, if memory serves, you have a 20 gallon fuel
tank?? That should get you through a solid day of offroading. Beyond that
you should carry a jerry can. Even when my Jeep got 10mpg I never needed a
    spare gas can.

    Hope that helps.
