BMW: E46 Warranty Inspections I, II, III

I had my Inspection 1 done this week at 27,500 miles.
I thought that was a little early (thought 30,000 was
the normal mileage) and some people on this ng agreed
with me. I talked to one of the techs at the BMW
dealership about what determines when the car tells you
to go in and get inspected.

The answer.....it's 100% based upon your fuel usage.
The lower your miles per gallon, the sooner the car
tells you to go in. He told me that some of the earlier
BMW computers had some intricate formula with a dozen
different variables all involved in your "miles left
before Inspection" equation. Then some engineer suggested
that, "don't all of these things equate to your miles
per gallon....why don't we just check that????". So they
did.

Just an interesting bit of trivia that I didn't know so
I thought I'd pass it on to the world....for what it's
worth.
