Ford Explorer: DTC

DTC
Anyone know how I might retrieve the Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTC)? from my
97 Explorer?
How to clear the codes?
Thanks!

Re: DTC
You'll need a scan tool - there are cheap ones that only do cheap stuff,
there are better ones that do a bit more and there are real good ones that
can be difficult to use to their fullest capabilities.
I might also suggest a shop manual.....

Re: DTC
Your Explorer has an OBD-II systerm you need to have it scanned and
the codes read, or purchase an OBD-II scanner and do it yourself. The
scanner can clear the codes, or if you don't have a scanner you can
disconnect the battery for awhile.

You need an OBD II scanner from your local auto parts store. You can clear
the codes by disconnecting the battery for several minutes (30?) or find the
right fuse and pull it for the same amount of time.

Re: DTC
AutoZone stores will often give you a free readout -- no need to buy your
own if you're not in the biz.
