    Doors don't latch when cold?

    1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee LTD.

My doors wont seem to latch when it gets really cold out. Doesn't happen
all the time and it doesn't happen to any specific door. Just every once in
a while one of them will open but then not close. It catches the first
    latch but wont shut completley.

    Any tips? Oil, grease, fire?

I treat my jeep to Krown rust control every fall ... keeps things like door
latches working. At least you can get into the jeep ... had an old Toyota
that would lock me out once in a while. And yes, I'd get in, and then have
to hold onto the door until it warmed up enough to get the frost of the
innards so's it would stay shut.

    Tips? Yep ... preventive maintenance.

Somebody else told me today that a match and a large quantity of gasoline
    usually do the trick..

Then again somebody recommended brake cleaner at first...and then use
lithium or carbon to lube them. I made a nice sarcastic comment about
having those substances readily available and he recons that motorcycle
chain grease would be the next best thing.

My experience with the old toyota ... I could squirt say WD40 (water
displacement) inside the doors through the latch, on the latch, anywhere I
could ... but the problem I think was probbaly in the linkage between the
latch and the door handle/lock levers. And I'm guessing it was a combination
of rust with frost forming on it ... and that's why heat (by the time I got
to work, it was warm and the doors worked again) made the problem go away
.... until another humid day followed by freezing at night. If it had been a
really bad problem, I would have removed the door panels and fixed it that
    way ... clean, lubricate.
