Re: Do new Celicas have automatic trnasmissions
Can we trade? In the US it seems all we get are automatics. Even though
the web sites and catalog list the manual transmission as standard with
the automatics as an option, you can't find a manual transmission model
on the dealer lots. Some makes/dealers even say they can't/won't order
one with a manual transmission.

That's cos Americans can't drive the 6speed manual without wrongly shifting
from 6th to 2nd (instead of 4th) and blowing the engine
)
However, it should be possibly to import a Jap Auto Celica in the UK no
problem. Although I'd guess that most that are imported are manuals.

Jase, I could go out and spend a few dollar and buy a Celica, and I'll swap
you - the only variety that are available here have autos. Which sucks, the
Celica is a SPORTY car, it needs a STICK!
Then we can swap! Both RHD... easy. :-)

In the US Toyota list the Celica as available with an Automatic 4
speed, a manual 5 speed, a manual 6 speed, and one listed as a
Automatic S4. Most dealers tend to stock automatics because that
is what the vast majority of buyers prefer. Toyota list
manual trannys at less than 10% of sales.

Re: Do new Celicas have automatic trnasmissions
The problem is, that while the various web sites and catalogs list the
car with a manual transmission - the dealers in the US seem to stock
only automatics, with the top of the line stereo options, alloy wheels,
floor mats, and any other option they can add to the car. Then they
tell you what a wonderful deal they have - just for you - only today.
If you want a base model car - well, they just might be able to order it
for you, but they never tell how to order a car. Or they say, they had
no choice - that is the only way they can get the car from Toyota - so
you have to take it with all of the "options".
