Dodge: Digital thermometer/compass in '90 Caravan

Digital thermometer/compass in '90 Caravan
I have a '90 Caravan 3.3L which has that overhead-mounted digital
thermometer and compass setup.
The van's about toast and I was wondering about the possibility of
robbing that compass/thermometer setup out of it and installing it in my
'89 Caravan C/V (cargo) van, which has a different engine (the 3.0L).
Does anyone know anything about those things, i.e. does it get its
temp reading from the MAF sensor and thus wouldn't work in a different
van with a different engine (and computer)?
Or is the thing just a self contained unit which would simply work in
any vehicle if you put 12 volts to it?
I use the cargo van for deliveries and would really use that compass
in rural areas, and the thermometer would be nice in cold weather to
determine if the roads might be about to ice up, etc.
It also has one of those Infinity stereos I plan to take as well.
Thanks in advance.

If you look under the front bumper of the van, you will see that there is
a sensor behind the bumper cover. That is the temp sensor. Other than
that, I don't know how to hook one of these things up!
BTW, what's toast? The motor? I have a '92 3.3 that the motor sounds like
a diesel, and doesn't hold any oil pressure. Seems to run and run and run,
though. Is the motor any good?

Re: Digital thermometer/compass in '90 Caravan
Actually the van's NOT toast...I purchased it for $100 because the
owner said the tranny slips. I bought it with the intention of robbing
the prev. mentioned parts off of it.
I pulled it home and discovered the tranny was low, filled it with ATF
and
the trans works fine. It would cut out in OD due to bad plugs &
wires... probably another reason prev. owner thought trans was slipping.
Replaced the plugs & wires on the (3.3 motor), which has 201k miles
and runs PERFECTLY, despite having horrible care (e.g. coal-black oil,
plugs & wires totally shot, trans empty, the whole van was filthy).
If you looked at that engine while it's running you wouldn't know it
was running if you couldn't hear it or see the belt moving.
If I'm not mistaken, I would venture to say the 3.3s and the 3.8s are
likely the same engine family, with a different bore or stroke. IOW, I
don't think there's a hell of a lot of difference in them, performance
and longevity, but there probably would be if you went to swap one for
the other...I'd just get another 3.3, definitely (referring to your
other post regarding this).

You're NOT mistaken. That is correct, the 3.8 is a 3.3 with a larger
bore and longer stroke.
As to the post that says "everyone tells me the 3.8 is a much more
bullet proof engine," I would wonder who "everyone" is.
Details on the 3.3/3.8L engine family from an engine-rebuilder's
viewpoint (and why you cannot replace a 3.3 in an LH car with one from a
