BMW: De -badge

De -badge
Wo debadges their cars? I am thinking of pulling the 330i off as I think it
looks cleaner.
-
Re: De -badge
IMHO, I wouldn't. Most people who debadge theu BMWs are trying to hide
the fact that they aren't driving the engine size they'd like to.
You always see these guys and assume that they're ashamed they can't
affort the bigger engine or something.

Re: De -badge
BMW offers un-badged vehicles as a no-cost option. I trust that most buyers
choose this for quite different, not necessarily nobler, reasons than the
ones that seem to rush to your mind. Ever heard of purposeful
understatement?

Debadging doesn't seem to "work" in the US, where I suspect he's from,
as the assumption is that you are trying to hide how poor you are and
that annoys peoplw who worked hard for their 330i and don't want some
ghetto pauper making like he spent the money when he didn't. The rest
of us? We do what we like. About a third of BMWs in Germany are
debadged, and the proportion of 3ers there which are 325i/330i is very
tiny.

People who think it looks cleaner and don't have the need to show off what
they got.
Your twin exhaust pipes and the actual performance will always tell people
that it is not a 318 you are driving!

If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway.

Re: De -badge
Much agreed. Did the same on my '99 E430 Sport, 560SEC, and '98 540i
6-Speed and my Sister's 323Ci. Looks much cleaner...

It was / is quite normal in Germany for company executives to have unbadged cars

The executives had (might still have) their cars damaged due to unrest of the
workers when the German economy was at it's lowest - 1970 - present day (not
forgetting that was also the root cause of Hitler's rise to power too).
Wether it is still the case I cannot say but I can remember when the VW Golf was
the best "hand built" car in Germany - Why? Because every other car had to be
stripped and re-built to rectify the production line faults (crap worknmanship)
due to worker unrest. Slightly different today - robots don't strike!
