No E21 expert but I'd bet thats the heater core. You probably have to
pull the centre console.

It's definitely the heater core. Not sure what you have to do to
get to that one. For now, you can bypass the heater under the hood.
Won't keep you warm, but depending on where you are THAT's not a
problem at the moment...

It's either the heater core or the hose connection/hose itself IF the
connection to the heater core is within the passenger compartment and not
under the hood.

Your heater is broken.
The heater is a device that looks much like the radiator in front of yoru
car. The coolant flows throught the heater and warms the air that passes
through. The heater is rotted out, or otherwise compromised.

Are you sure it's coolant and not condensation from the air conditioner?
I occassionally get startled on a sharp turn, driving barefoot, AC on
for a long time.
