Chilton's or Hayes which one is better ???
I need to buy the repair manual for my 93 excab V6 4x4. I have seen both
brands for good prices online. Which one is more thorough? is there anything
else better still?
Thanx,

Go with "Hayes".
It's the better of the two.

Haynes is more in depth, and for about the same price. If you can find one
cheap, the factory service manual would be even better.

Re: Chilton's or Hayes which one is better ???
In my experience, the quality of and level of detail for manuals in
general follow the order:
Factory (I highly recommend, if you're planning on keeping that or
similar vehicles for any period of time. I myself have a full shelf for
trucks 84-94, Celica and Supras 82-85, Tercels 86-94, MKII MR2, and a
few misc others)
Bentley - best SAAB manual available, almost as good as factory
Clymer - only have these for motorcycles
Haynes - not bad, but not terribly specific.
Chiltons - really just good as a checklist if you already know what
you're doing.
For my 89 and 94 V6s, only the factory manuals are sufficient, in my
opinion. I've got the Haynes ($1 at a garage sale), and it doesn't compare.

If you are able to pay a little more, and wait a little longer, keep an eye
out on eBay. There are sets of FACTORY manuals that go up for sale there.
There should be 2 volumes, one for chassis, one for engine.

If you have high-speed internet access, you can download the manuals
directly from Toyota's website at http://techinfo.toyota.com. It costs ten
dollars for one day's unlimited access.

knowledge. SO i downloaded anything i thought I could possibly need-from

I got most of the stuff I thought might be useful and it was about 7 megs
total. (They're PDF's.) Unfortunately, you have to download things a section
at a time - you can't just say, "give me all you've got on the 1997 Tacoma."
It's sorta tedious.
