if you have the manual transmission, the change interval is about 30k
miles. I have the 1mz v6 motor with the 5 speed and the recommended
oil is 80-90 weight gear oil. There is a drain plug and fill plug on
the transmission. I think you will need an oil pump to fill it though
due to the limited access to the fill hole.

On my '94, this service has clearly been neglected. First time I
checked it (purchased used with 84,000 miles) the fluid came out
looking like chocolate milk.
On the automatic transmission the differential uses automatic
transmision fluid.
I put Mobil 1 synthetic ATF in mine and seemed to notice an
improvement in power. Checked it again later after around 15,000 miles
and it looked as clear and bright red as new.
I'd guess 30,000 miles may be a good maintenance interval for fluid
replacement.
Some of the later versions do not have separate differential fluid. If
yours does, the drain plug takes the same 10mm Allen wrench as the
transaxle and is located just a bit further to the rear. Fill plug is
up on the side of the housing in back - you need to lift the car to
reach it. Not sure, but I think it takes a 17mm wrench.
