    C8 302 heads

Are they closed or open chambered?

My $0.02 on Holley carbs, had three leak fuel new out of box, have another that
dribbles fuel off of the sec. throttle shaft onto the manifold and can't be
    repaired.
Drop a bowl to rejet and plan on new gaskets after you razor blade off whats
left of the old one and then mop up the mess.
EDLs are the way to go. No leaks, easy to tune and more torque and economy.

Why are you running a RPM airgap on the small port 68 heads??? The port
mismatch has to cause some serious disruption to airflow.

Are you sure yours was brand new? I recently bought a brand new 750 double
pumper with 4 corner idle adjustment, and it came with the blue non-stick
gaskets, and had no problems with it leaking any where. As for changing
jets, that's why I put a little can under one corner before I take out a
bottom screw, to catch the fuel. Those little cans that chip dip comes in
works nicely for that. Besides, there is so much more you can do with a
Holley carb that you can't with a Eldebrock carb.

    Re: C8 302 heads

Because I already had them and they had a been recently rebuilt with
hardened seats. Figured I might as well use them and save up for something
better. And I didn't feel like plunkin' down over a grand for the aluminum
RPM heads after dropping 2 grand for the longblock. I've been thinking of
going with C9 351W heads. I was told that maybe the valves would be too big
and drop the velocity going into the motor too much to make power. Another
suggestion was to find some C6 289 heads and go with those. Again a cheaper
fix. I don't have to have aluminum heads as I'm not looking for a screamer
on the roads, just don't want the riceboys passing me. I got the RPM airgap
because the price was right at the right time and my other option was a
    2bbl 302 intake from '70, not.

No, I've never had the opportunity to play with one of those, but it sounds
to me like they just screwed up and forgot to put the gaskets in. The motor
that I put the 750 on, is basically a street motor, and all I had to do is
drop the jet sizes down a couple notches, and adjust the air fuel mixture,
and it was good to go. When I build the race motor, I'll be able to use the
same carb, by just changing the jets, and maybe the squirters and/or pumps,
depending on the requirements of the motor. Maybe it's because I've always
used the Holley's, but I think they are easier to work on.
