Corvette: C5 Headlight replacement

C5 Headlight replacement
Wondering if anybody has changed out the standard headlight bulbs for
anything different. Just looking at replacing the bulbs, not
converting to non-popup.
I'm looking at the ones offered by Mid America

Pros, cons, others?
Thanks all.

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
Hi Al
I did this. The lights are now blue instead of yellow. The high beams are
worse. I still can't see the deer. The best improvement came from turning
down the HUD. I think to get a real improvement you have to change out the
lenses. I saw a thread on this here some time ago.

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
I just installed a set of SYLVANIA Cool Blue halogens
in my '94. I really like them.

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
Hi Al I have converted my headlights to HID both Low and high and am quite
satisfied with the conversion. I know I am going to get flamed with my
statement as I was when I posted a similar question a while back.

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
I had to change the fuses from 15 Amp To 20 Amp using the factory wiring ,
the kits come with a relay set up which I later installed which you do not
have to change the fuses out , I bought the kit from Mid America also they
had it in stock if you do both the high and low just order two kits mine
works great with no error code generated it took a little while to aim the
headlight correctly but have had no problems after doing it visually

That's great -- if a 20 amp fuse is holding together
during the initial inrush then it sounds liveable. The
relay, off the battery bus, was a good way to go since
it takes that initial load off the switch contacts.
Thanks for the info, "Mike"

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
Are those Sylvania Cool Blues plastic or glass? They are sealed beams, I
presume?

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
No, they're just the bulbs. Not the lenses.

Re: C5 Headlight replacement
I wonder how much light the HID's throw out. My wife's BMW X5 throws an
unbelievable amount of light and it's not HID. I think it has to do with
the way the lenses are ground. Also, I know this sounds nutty, but the
headlights get dirty from driving in the rain and with them being folded
down while washing, I could see that making a difference too.
Like I said earlier, the biggest difference came from turning down my HUD.
