    I used a split joint on an 89 Ford Escort and it held up well for 5
    years/20K miles. Clearly not a "professional" fix but if installed
    carefully and monitored regularly, can be of at least some value.

    You need to replace that boot as soon as possible to keep
    the wheel bearings from going dry. If you hear a clicking
    sound when turning corners you may have already damaged
    the wheel bearings. An auto shop will tell you that you need
    a new axle. Just replace the bearing, add axle grease and replace the
    boot. You should be ok.

    C.V. joint boots

    Has anyone out there replaced a C.V. joint boot with the split type?Are
    they a reliable repair? T.I.A. for any feedback.
