Brake pads, 2002 Grand Caravan
Hello all,
Wife's van, front brakes making very noticeable "grinding" noise under
moderate-to-hard braking. Pretty clearly needs new pads on the front disc
brakes. Gonna do it myself, with the aid of a mechanic friend. He's
advised me to get the pads at an auto parts store, and says there are
usually 3 "levels" of pads. He suggests I get the middle level, which are
not too soft and not too hard, and should cost around $30 for both front
wheels. He recommended NAPA over AutoZone.
Question is: Does that sound right? Any brand name (or model/part
number) that you would recommend I get (or avoid)? Appreciate any advice!

That advice is pretty much right on. You don't really want ones that are to
high in metallic content. This is from my own experience on a 1999 Grand
Caravan. I went with middle of the road pads and have been very happy. Cost
to me was about $26.
The most important thing is to coat the crap out of the backside of the pads
with Brake Quiet, otherwise the sonic vibrations will drive you nuts.
