bonding new panels : Q
If you bond new panels : do you stil need to put fiberglass over the joint ?
I ask myself this question since the factory just bonded the panels with
bonding past and did not use any additional fiberglass on the joint.
Thanks

If bonded properly using the correct bonding material and a new bonding
strip, no fiberglas resin or cloth/matting is necessary.

i would. cheap insurance. vee the edges to the center of the strip and put
on a layer of mat or cloth. that way if you have air pockets or maybe a spot
or 2 whare the strip didnt get glued properly, it wont crack a month later
due to vibration. not that these car vibrate or anything. i agree with
vettefella. properly done, no probs. BUT, poop occurs and i always like to
cover my bacon. dont do it to where you dont think it will crack. do it to
where you know it wont. also, make sure you mix the resin and bonding
adhesive to the directions on the can. if you mix it too hot to hurry up
drying time, the bond will be brittle and prone to cracking. btw, go to a
paint store and get a cheap paper paint suit, like a pair of paper overalls.
wear it when you grind the glass and when finishing it up. get a good
particle mask also. if not , when done , burn the clothes you were wearing
and take a cold shower. other wise, youll get a whole new meaning of the
word itch. good luck
