BMW: BMW / tall drivers

BMW / tall drivers
Was wondering if any tall drivers out there can give me
their opinion of BMWs comfort, any difference between the
different series?
I am 6'7 and looking at new cars now

John, I'm 6'3 and recently purchased a 2000 323Ci. I found the coupe
version to have considerable more leg and shoulder room then the 4 door
models. I drove 5 series and 3 series models before I settled on the
car I purchased.
Hope this helps.

Although BMWs have tons of legroom, they are only average
(IMHO) on headroom. If you have a long body rather than legs,
they can be a problem. Having said that, my 6'3" son has no problems
in our '91 525i.
To ensure that my '01 330xi have more-than-adequate headroom,
I ordered it w/o a sunroof, which gives about 1" or 1.5" more.
Because I have back/neck problems, I sit more erect than many
people.

I would try a fiat 500, get the front seat out and open the roof and should
work just fine. Just hope you don't live in a cold and wet climate

plenty of leg room even for you.
The strongest recommendation I can make is, whichever model you buy,
get the sports seats, with the extra pull-out thigh support. That is
invaluable for tall people. The 12-way power with position memories
atop the sports seats is also terrific if you share the car with a
shorter SO.

Re: BMW / tall drivers
I'm 6'2 and currently own a '00 328i, find that the headroom is fine-would
be better if I didn't have the sunroof -but I would never give it up. As for
the coupe, I sat in one and found that because of my longer torso, the sedan
is preferable for tall folks. I have also sat in the 5series and I must say,
had no problem with headroom.
If you decide on a coupe, I suggest you go with manual seats rather then the
electronic seats. My previous car was a '96 328i and found it more
comfortable (although a pain to get the seats back in the same position when
my girlfriend drove the car) than the current car. Are manual seats even
offered still???

Go to a dealer and sit in some. Generally speaking the bigger the car
the better the comfort factor.
In my old 3 I can't have the seat all the way back 'cos then I can't
reach the steering wheel! The newer ones have adjustable reach on the
steering column so this should make things better for tall folks.
The seats are height adjustable to some degree or another. I'm not
sure whether the electric seats don't adjust as far down as the manual
ones used to. As someone else said the extendable thigh supports are
nice.
By the way, I'm 6'5" (35" inseam) ...& I used to drive Minis.

Sunroofs also limit headroom.
It also depends on your body shape whether the 'problem' is in leg or
headroom.
I have a pal who is 6'5, and he's comfortable driving my E39 with
electric seats but no sunroof, while he wasn't with my last E34 with
manual seats but a sunroof.

Thanks to those with the helpfull suggestions.
Tough to find cars for tall guys who are not interested in trucks or
those excessive SUVs.
