    BMW and All Wheel Drive...?

    Hey Guys,
I was just wondering if BMW has made any of their 3 series with AWD/4WD.
I saw on the internet that there was a XI model, but was that actually
released?? Im a big fan of BMW and wanted to get one in a year or so, but i
live in canada which means alot of water and sometimes ice....so i cant be
driving a rear wheel drive or ill end up in a ditch. Any info would be
    great...thanks

Since most cars in Canada come with rear-wheel drive does that also mean
that most Canadian drivers will end up in a ditch?

You are wrong my friend. Most cars up here are FWD. RWD are very rare now.
Most Japanese and American (Malibu, Taurus, Impala, Cavailier etc) are FWD.

If you want to get serious about AWD, get an Audi. They have been improving
the quattro for 20 years now and are the leader in that field. That's why
they have been kicked out of WRC...

When you say most cars in canada, do you mean most cars over the 35k mark???
cause 90 percent of the cars on the road here are FWD

I like the audi A4, but only the 2002+ model, and thats out of my budget

Things must have changed a lot since I last looked so I stand corrected. But
are Canadian preferences so much different from the US or are 90% of all US
    cars also front wheel driven?

Please let's not post any nonsense. Audi has never been kicked out of
the WRC. Different VAG brands have participated in it at different
times, currently Skoda is the one represented there. Without too much
    success I should add.

    325iX, 1987 to 1991. (E30)

The E46 (2000+) has had the 330Xi and the 325Xi models. The X5 is the only
    other AWD Bimmer.

BTW, ending up in a ditch is a function of the driver, not the vehicle. I
drove a crappy rental cavalier with worn all season tires in to Toronto
during that big snowstorm in April, passed 21 cars in ditches (yes I
counted) and passed cars on the road all day long. Cars in the ditch were a
mix of FWD, AWD, 4WD, and RWD.

That said, the iX is an incredibly competant, confidence-inspiring machine
to have with you when things get ugly out.

    But
    US
Never did a count, but 90% of the cars sounds close. Most sport cars have
RWD, but that's no difference with anywhere else in the world. They drive a
lot of trucks (pick-ups) here with either RWD or 4WD, and SUV's with 4WD,
including these would lower the 90%.

Re: BMW and All Wheel Drive...?

there are lies, damn lies, statistics, and newsgroup retards lying with fake
    statistics!

90% of canadian cars are NOT front wheel drive. FWD cars probably make up the
majority of 'cars' sold. But when you take into account Trucks and Suvs - many
of which are RWD, in addition to various sports cars, BMWs, lexus etc etc, + of
course all the older RWD production vehicles on the road, much more than 10%
of cars here are rwd. I won't pollute the internet with another guestimate!

that said - why would you end up in a ditch with a Rwd car?? Maybe if you
didn't know how to drive. forget any of the Xi bmws, or the hideous current
body style A4 , and buy a normal Bmw with power going through the rear wheels.
The DSC is very clever and should help tame its nature.

Buy some snows, take a driving course, and you'll be fine!

    Looking forward to tailslides,

    corky
