    axle/spindle nut cavalier

i was just wondering about the axle nut on my 99 cavalier z24...
getting ready to replace the hub bearing and i need to know why there is not
a cotter pin holding nut on like other vehicles i've had.....do you have to
replace the nut or can it be reused and if so what keeps it from loosing up...

Most nuts of that type are one-time-use self locking. They will not
necessarily come loose if re-used and properly tightened but they are not as
tightly secured. They generally have deformed threads or a plastic locking
compound to eliminate the need for a cotter key. Best to replace it.

They are also torqued to over 200 foot pounds. So you need good wrenches and
need to torque it properly or it will come loose.

I'd suggest you need a good 3/4 inch (air not electric) impact gun.
