Cadillac: Automotive Slogan War Heating Up

Automotive Slogan War Heating Up
With little truely new to offer in 2011, automakers have turned to Madison
Avenue for help. Consumers have become desensitized to rebates and
incentives. Product and deals have taken a back seat to sloganeering.
Toyota will kill their drab "Moving Forward" slogan. The leading candidate
for its replacement is the more exciting and truthful "Faster Than You
Imagined". But there is support for using a slogan that describes Toyota's
generic styling, "Invisible".
Cadillac's new slogan is "Bling For The Road". Ford, the only US automaker
not to accept government help, will use the slogan "Independently Owned And
Operated".
BMW will continue to use "The Ultimate Driving Machine" despite clear
evidence the brand doesn't attract ultimate drivers. "There's still some
mileage left in the slogan" said Joseph Camel of the Brand Research
Institute "but people are starting to recognize there are BMWs wrapped
around trees on six continents. The only thing preventing a sweep is there
are no trees on Antartica."
Saab's "Born From Jets" slogan may be changed to "Escaped From GM".
However, this could be affected by an effort to give official status to the
defacto penisular sport of Scandanavia, drunk driving.
The minor players aren't lying down. Several years ago, Suzuki sued
Consumers Reports and, out of court, got a partial retraction of their view
that the Suzuki Samarai spent a lot of time on its roof. Suzuki's new
slogan for its SUVs will be a defiant "We Don't Roll Over For Anybody".

I'd like to see a slogan, "Drive our cars and live to tell your grandkids."

Car slogans and advertising got boring compared to the

How many present cars have "touchdown overdrive"? None..

Note the manliness of this one from 1957. No girly men
in that one.. :/ chortle..

Maybe they need to look back at the 50's when they
had real car commercials. Note the manliness of the
Dodge factory commercial.. chortle..

Now that is truly sick. A slogan that encourages the sheep to not
only break the law but kill innocent people. And the govt does
nothing cause GM bribes them not to.

It's hard to beat the look of the 57 Dodge, esp the 2 door hardtop.
They don't have lines like that anymore.

I think GM's new commercials with George Clinton are really going to be a
great hit. "Escalade.... it's so automated, I can smoke crack while driving"
is a bit heavy-handed as a slogan but I think it will certainly bring in the
customers.

It was my impression the phrase referred to Toyota's unintentional
acceleration problems. But that wouldn't fit with your car crash
conspiracy theory.

there were NO "unintentional acceleration" problems
the problems were. A sticking accelerator module, a loose floor mat
catching the accelerator pedal and some non deactivating cruise
controls. All the rest were just dimwitted fuckwits that would have the
same problem no matter what brand of car they were driving
